Standing Strong in Health and Tradition

Nlaka’pamux Health Services Society exists to serve the Nlaka’pamux Nation with health and wellness services rooted in trust, tradition, and the belief that care should be as close to home as possible.

Programs and Services for Every Community

NHSS delivers care in ways that are flexible, mobile, and culturally grounded—because every community deserves access to meaningful services. Whether you're connecting with us at one of our locations, through telehealth, or from the comfort of your home, our programs are designed to meet you where you are.

We offer a range of services including:

  • Primary health and wellness care so all members of our communities have access to the healthcare they need, when they need it
  • Mental health support including youth counselling, trauma care, and traditional healing approaches
  • Mobile health units to bring services directly to rural or remote areas, with expanded services to reach every resident
  • Community outreach and education, including health promotion, chronic disease prevention, and traditional wellness
  • Support for Elders and families, such as home care, transportation to medical appointments, and culturally safe palliative services

Our programming continues to grow with input from the communities we serve, and every new initiative is shaped by Nlaka’pamux values, knowledge, and priorities.

A Nation-Centered Approach to Primary Care

The way we deliver health services is changing - and for good reason. Through our role in the First Nations Primary Care Initiative, NHSS is helping build a new model for care that centers Indigenous leadership, respects cultural practice, and restores self-determination in health planning.

What the First Nations Primary Care Initiative Means for Our Communities:

  • A centralized primary care facility that brings doctors, mental health supports, and traditional wellness access under one roof
  • Expanded mobile services to reach Elders, new parents, and individuals with mobility challenges directly in their homes or communities
  • Infrastructure growth in places like the Canyon, where access has historically been limited
  • Integration of Nlaka’pamux teachings like land-based healing, traditional medicines, and food sovereignty into the care model itself

This work isn’t just about adding services. It’s about reclaiming the right to shape how health care looks and feels for our people.

Looking Ahead

At NHSS, planning isn’t just paperwork - it’s a path forward. Our five-year strategy (2024–2029) outlines key areas of focus to grow our capacity and improve care delivery for every member of the Nation.

Our Vision and Mission

We are actively working to:

  • Build sustainable funding models that reduce reliance on short-term programs
  • Increase staffing across health disciplines, including traditional wellness roles
  • Expand training, mentorship, and student placements to grow our future workforce from within the Nation
  • Strengthen governance structures to support accountability and future leadership
  • Improve digital and in-person communication so community members always know how and where to access services

Everything we do is guided by regular consultation with Chiefs, councils, and community members. Because real progress only happens when it reflects the will—and the wisdom—of the Nation.

Care That Reflects Who We Are

Health care, when it’s done right, reflects the people it serves. That’s why NHSS blends western medical services with traditional knowledge and cultural safety. Our values – Respect, Trust, Transparency, Integrity, Holistic Practice, and Diversity – aren’t slogans. They’re woven into every decision, every clinic, every step of our work.

We don’t just measure success in charts and numbers. We measure it in the trust we build, the relationships we maintain, and the ways our services continue to grow alongside the Nation’s needs.

Who We Are

Grounded by Vision, Backed By Action

More than just a health provider, NHSS is an advocate, a partner, and a voice for the Nation. Our work supports not just physical health, but the full wellness of individuals, families, and communities, guided by traditional knowledge and shaped by the lived experiences of the people we serve.

Health is more than access to services. It’s voice. It’s connection. It’s the right to define care on our own terms. At NHSS, we’re walking that path – together
